Several movies that took home Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 — “Anna Karenina,” “Inocente,” “Curfew” and “Paperman” — and “The Master,” which earned several Oscar nominations are now available on DVD and/or iTunes. Not into the Oscar-nominated films? Wait until Friday, March 2, when Part 2 of “Twilight Breaking Dawn” is released on DVD and on iTunes.
“The Master,” for which Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman received Oscar nods is available on DVD — including at several Columbus area RedBox locations — and on iTunes to rent ($4.99) or to buy ($19.99). “Anna Karenina,” which won the Oscar for best costume design, is also available on DVD and on iTunes as a $5.99 rental and a $14.99 buy.
In “The Master,” Navy veteran Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix) arrives home from war and drifts aimlessly unless he finds cult-like religious group lead by Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The film is told in a stream-of-consciousness style, linking together vignettes as Freddie becomes involved with the group and eventually starts questioning its purpose and the teachings of his mentor.
Staring Keira Knightley, “Anna Karenina” is based on the influential book. Set in late-19th-century Russia, aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.
Oscar’s documentary short winner “Inocente” is available on iTunes for $9.99 to buy and $4.99 to rent.
The Oscar live action short winner “Curfew” is a $2.99 buy on iTunes.
Animated short Oscar winner Disney’s “Paperman” is $2.99 to purchase on iTunes.
